Friday Bry, Koy and I left Hou. And SA by 6:00 am to get on the water by 10ish. Put in and went to Horseshoe first thing. Water was muddy due to high winds, and west wind no good. So we proceeded to go to the W shoreline of Carlos. Nice cover from the WNW wind. Good grass beds, and 4 trout caught. Were on our way to Blackjack for a short stop before the Horns game. 3 poles caught my eye, so we made a drift. 3 trout landed, all b/t 17 to 20 inches. We decided to wade the cut. 1.5 hrs and 16 very nice trout later, we went in the catch the 4th qtr of the blowout. Fish hitting goldielox and croaker BA’s.
Saturday, Bry Koy and I waded in front of Laguna, waiting for Kollman and Kunz to show up. Not a single bump for 2.5 hrs. So Koll and Paul arrive and we proceed to yesterdays spot. We got there too early (11:30 ish) and only a few fish were caught. It was on when the tide was really pulling (key for this spot), and that didn’t happen until about 2:30 and on, so we went to the shoe. Koll and Bry found some fish along the south rim, in and amongst big muddy water patches. Landed a few nice ones. We proceeded to 3 poles cut, were we ended the day catching 39 keeper trout and a red. Koll beat me 12 to 11. All good winter fish to 20”. Goldie, native and the like BA’s, as well as maroon corky.
Sunday, Koll, Paul and I got to Danny’s about 8:45 ish. I started shallow and the other 2 fished the drop. Koll was catching some trout on the drop, while at first I had none. I walked to the next duck blind skeleton and got a great blowup ( I was on top with a skitterw jr.) but missed him. The next cast, bam again, but no joy. I saw that one, nice trout. Next cast, bam, a 26” red. I missed another very nice trout I had on for a minute or so. Koll landed a big 27” red on BA as well. I had some nice action, catching a few rats and having some great blowups. Fish were chasing more than biting. Koll ended with 5 trout and his red, while Paul had a nice trout. Good trip…#6 at Hunt’s Castle cabin.
