June 17,18 2005:
Stites and I hit the cuts Friday by 5:00 pm. Water was super grassy and hot! Low tide was 6:30, so we wanted to be there. Grass too thick to use top, so I went weedless BA. Caught 2 keepers and lost a bunch by 7:00. Stites had one. Went to the first cut to see if grass was not so bad. It was much better...and some fish were there. Lost 2 nice fish and caught a bunch of rats. Went back to 4 at 8:30ish. Getting better...had 6 in the back by 9:45...Stites had a couple up front...bunch of 14's. @ 10:30 the fish were all at the mouth...so were the porpois...while in waste deep water, one grabbed 2 of my fish off my stringer and began to drag me out...luckily they came free. Once my heart stopped pounding, I cast back out...to catch a 12 incher, just to have said porpois grab this fish, run 3/4 of my line off, and let go...never before have I.........
Ended with 9 keepers and left at 3:00. Slept in, and hit the Shamrock by 1:30. One quick drift inside revealed hot water and no keepers. Hit the outside...Stites going right and I left...I had one strike in 1.5 hrs...22" spitting eggs all over the place. Stites had a few small ones. Back to the cuts by 6:00. Back lit up at about 10:00 with 25+ caught...just 8 keepers though, with some coming up front by Stites. Fell asleep on the boat and left again at 3:00.
