Port Mansfield
Brown, Kollman, Orty
Friday: Get to the Port at around 2:30…on water by 3:30ish. Water reported to be 52…felt like about 48 along intercoastal. Hit Red Shore and Bennie’s south. Koll at redshore snags a nice 26” that was super fat on old faithful. I try outside of Bennies with light corky fboy…nada. Walk to inside. No water. Brown and Koll see birds hitting shoreline of west bay, so they curled around inside of Bsouth to make a drift. They begin picking up some reds just outside the N/S line inside the island. I walk out to them and we go to the shoreline to see what the birds are doing. Koll finds his usual little pocket and starts to pickup more reds on gulp of some kind (not shrimp). I follow birds to see if I can catch up to them. Just swimming in huge groups, following and bobbing behind huge bait schools. Not much hit around them.
Sat.: Hit West shore around 9:00, start at T fence, Koll and Brown up a ways. Long wade with nothing until I get to boat…Koll finds a pocket of fish as soon as I drift up to them. Koll and Brown load up on reds, and Koll catches 4 nice trout, to 26”. Fish very tight to one bed. We proceed up North. Tried behind islands…not much water, and no bait. Big waist of time…go back down to 3 wise men…red city! No trout. All limited by now, so we go try to find trout. Back to where we started…Koll walks out just beyond me and snags nice trout…then, hooks huge red we though was his wallhanger…nice cblock. At about 4ish, the fish were in a “gut” around waste deep…good numbers of trout. Only keeping 20” or under…had 10 trout at around 20”, 10 24” or over, with some nice fish caught on second go-round by Brownie. This shore was loaded, and most caught on old faithfull.
Sun.: Oeller and the boat cover!
